Making time

I’ve found recently that I just can’t seem to find enough time to sit down and read. Ever since I finished Wallbanger I’ve been distracted by one thing or another, and it’s really starting to bug me. I vote that we ask for more hours in the day, who’s with me?

No one?

Okay, just me then. Sigh.

Last night I took my laptop to bed with me and managed to write another chapter for Ties. Does anybody else find themselves writing chapters that are further on in their book? I’ve found myself writing completely out of order lately, but given my recent lull I thought I should just go with it and let my imagination take me where it pleases.

I’ve also started to write a post about my main character too. I think this will be a nice way to introduce you to her, and maybe a few of the others, so that you get to know them a little better. I’m quite excited about this!

I was doing some research yesterday through various links courtesy of Google, and decided that I should probably get to work on my blurb. This is a concept that still confuses me slightly though. Am I right in thinking a blurb can be one of two things….a comment on your book from another person (like what you find on the front of dvd covers haha) OR a type of mini synopsis, like what you find on the back of a book. Obviously I intend to write the latter of the two! I hope I’ve got my head around this properly because that would be a little embarrassing if not.

So many things to think about and such little time. Which brings me back to my first point. More hours in the day please Mr Cameron. Thank you muchly.

The Great Gatsby

Let me just start off by getting this out there…..I LOVE LEONARDO DICAPRIO!!

I’ve never really being one of those girls that fawned over him in Titanic, I appreciated his face and that was that. Until The Great Gatsby.

How is it that men just come into their own with age, they become handsome, suave, distinguished, but women generally just look worn down. Sad but true. Anyway I digress, my point is Leo is perfect for the role of Gatsby, those eyes draw you in and I never wanted them to let me go. I am now officially a huge Leo fan!

Now, I did feel it was a bit slow to start with, about the first 20 minutes or so didn’t really get me. If I’m honest I began to lose my grasp on the plot. However, once the invite to one of Gatsbys parties arrives for Nick Carraway – the narrator/writer of the story if you will – the fun really starts!

The love story that is revealed is touching, Gatsby has found his true love and will never give up on her. He is the ultimate optimist!

I won’t spoil anything for anybody who hasn’t seen it, but my advice would be to go. Yes it is a long film, but the cast is excellent and the vivid imagery breathtaking. Maybe I’m biased because of my love of everything 1920s, but I do think that this film is a must see if you can just hold out for the fun to begin!

Good News!! My brain has lost the dumb!

For those of you that read my last post, that will probably make sense, to all others, I’m not an illiterate moron, honest! Check  my last post and all will be clear 😉

So, because it’s been so long since I posted – damn brain – you’ll need to brace yourselves for a quick fire catch up!

WARNING: Serious Ramblings Ahead!

On Wednesday, my brain finally started to come back to me, along with inspiration. Sounds great right? Nuh uh. My inspiration came flooding back with some absolutely random book idea, talk about throwing me for a loop. So, I pulled Word up – because I’m never one to just ignore that little voice in my head – and managed to knock out 8,000 words on a new story! Madness.

Credit where it’s due though, my brain did manage to come up with a pretty nifty cover idea for The Ties that Break Us, so I forgave it for this little outburst.

Thursday was a write off. Seriously, parcel delivery services are beyond incompetent and I sometimes wonder how these people manage to function in day to day society. So yes, Thursday was spent chasing after, and waiting in for, delivery men who never turned up. *Sigh* I won’t go on about this because I’ll just get annoyed again and it won’t make for a fun post to read!

Skipping ahead to Saturday though, Saturday was fun! In fact the whole weekend was fun. Off we went though to the Trafford Centre to buy my Grandma a juicer (Selfridges is the closest place to us that stocks them.) And, let’s face it girls, it’s rude not to check out the pretty handbags and shoes whilst you’re surrounded by such beauty isn’t it?! Also, they have an American sweets section that leaves me speechless, I am literally like a kid in a candy store! So I now have a nice little stockpile of things that will steadily rot my teeth and my stomach……but every now and again it’s allowed right? RIGHT???

Sunday. Oh Sunday. Sunday was my lovely mum’s birthday so we went to our wedding venue and had lunch. It’s the first time she’s seen it properly and she really liked it, which is good because it’s too late now anyway! I get so excited every time I think about our wedding that I turn in to a bit of an obsessive for a few days at a time, not sure that this is a very attractive quality in a future wife, especially with another 22 months to go. Ooops.

After lunch we had a trip to Leeds Trinity Centre and did a bit of shopping. I can’t tell you how much I look forward to Victoria’s Secrets opening so close to home. I know a lot of people find it over priced etc but I absolutely love it and had a bit of a spree last time we were in the States. It’s one of the only places that does me any favours! Counting down the days I am haha.

Finally, after a scatty post of nonsense and ramblings, today I’m going to see The Great Gatsby!! I’m really looking forward to this and hope it doesn’t let me down, after all, 2 1/2 hours is a long time to sit through a film if you’re just wanting it to end already! I shall let you know my verdict!

Now that life has resumed to normal in my head, I’ll try post as normal again now, and will probably fill in any bits I’ve forgotten about from the last week! So for now, over and out!

Just checking in

Hello there my lovelies!

I’m having a bit of a burn out day today so not a lot of anything has been done. If I’m being completely honest with you all, its highly unlikely I’ll be anymore use than a chocolate fireguard this weekend haha

Anyway, I just wanted to say, fear not, I am still alive and well…..well maybe not well but I’m alive 😉

I’ll post again soon though when I promise to say something useful!

Character inspiration

What and who usually inspires you to write characters a certain way?

I know that recently I’ve been thinking a lot about my characters, to the point where I feel like they are all friends of mine, which is good I guess. I usually start with an image of the kind of person I have in my head for my characters and then as time goes on, I try to find a person online that is similar – hard life right?! Seriously though, sometimes a person just falls into my lap and I don’t have to have a good Google (dread to think how badly cookied I am!) For example, I was watching the Fashion Police last week – I do love me some Joan Rivers – and they started talking about Tom Brady. Now, I recognised the name, but I still have no idea why, maybe from seeing it online somewhere? I don’t watch American Football, I mean we have ESPN but over here but it’s not really that big. So, when his face appeared on my screen I actually froze, spoon halfway into mouth – not a pretty sight I’ll grant you – but there he was, my Jamie!! He is just how I described the character look-wise in my book, I couldn’t believe it.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I find that when I have a picture like that to keep looking at, it helps inspire me and to actually visualize the way they speak, the way they move, everything.

I’m thinking of doing a post about my characters soon, what does everybody think? Yey or nay (yes or no?!) I’m about three quarters of the way through writing my book now, then there’s the editing process etc but I’m excited to get some bits out there into the big wide world, any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Don’t you just hate it when….

Inspiration hits you right between the eyes when you’re trying to get to sleep! This happened lastnight and I had to fish around under my pillow to find my phone and write up my thoughts on the notepad. It’s that moment where you’re laid there thinking, surely I’ll just remember this in the morning, but then panic hits and you can’t sleep anyway. Ugh. Though if I’m honest, I am glad I wrote it down because I couldn’t remember every intricate detail when I woke up so I guess I did myself a favour.

In completely unrelated news, I’m sat here in my living room typing away to some bizarre noises coming from the snicket next to the house, it sounds like a group of young men cheering and ooooo-ing….I won’t lie, I’m too scared to go shut the curtains now! It’s 10.16pm, go away please and come back when it’s not pitch black out. Also, some people are hanging around the park too. If there’s one thing I hate more than the dark, it’s parks in the dark. I’m far too soft for my own good, and I do realise how pathetic I sound, I do, but we all have our quirks right?

The bullies are back with AF too on Fanfiction, although to be honest, I get the distinct feeling all these are the same person. Yesterday, this person actually told my AF that she is her friend on Facebook but she refused to be anything other than a guest reviewer on FanFic for fear of being savaged by her group of sycophants (I actually had to look that up, and what a nasty thing to call her friends and fans!!) There’s just no need to call somebody a coward and say they hope they fail, karma is a biatch y’all!!

Anyway, happy Friday night everybody!! Wherever you are, have a drink for me 🙂

When reality inspires

The last 24 hours have been exhausting. On the plus side it is Friday tomorrow though, right?

On a book related note, the above situation and country music has cured my writers block! I’m currently obsessed with Miranda Lambert. We don’t get a huge amount of country music over here in the UK, so discovering Miranda Lambert on an American friends Facebook wall a couple of months back was quite exciting.

I do love music that tells a story, I think this is why country music is so special, it comes from the heart and you take the journey with the artist. If anybody has any music suggestions for me I would LOVE to hear them 🙂

Well, before I bore you all to tears, I shall say goodnight and do some writing. Before I go though, I’ll share my current inspiration with you all.
